In a very unconventional but fun way, international retail specialist Hans Eysink Smeets describes how porn and other sectors had to drastically reinvent their retail models, managed to survive, and created a whole new set of rules that led them to become something our bankers are looking after for so long: truly customer centric.
Porn has always pioneered new media. Bookprinting, photography, film, video, the internet -porn was the first to see the commercial potential. The shift towards the internet has lead to the extinction of their business model based on video’s, DVD’s and brick and mortar sex shops. In it’s wake: bookstores, post offices, travel agencies, music stores and yes- banks.
By applying the lessons from these shifting sectors, our banks could innovate much easier, and be twice as consumer-friendly at half the cost. And that is good news for all of us.
