We work in the country that brought us some of the most powerful global retailers.

What have you done in France?

Many things over the years. We can remember creating new dealer networks for Saab in the 1980s, changing fashion chains in the 1990s and looked at ways to change the relationship with the big retailers for Barilla in the 2000’s.

Do you speak the languages?

Enough to get by. We can get around in shops easily and can talk with confidence to consumers.

How far along the trend of retail-development is France?

Very for indeed. It is the country that gave the world hypermarkets like Carrefour, and did some amazing things in discounting with LeaderPrice. Their out-of-town shopping malls were way ahead, with City2 north of Paris as a shining new example at the time. the dependency on hypermarkets for a number of the big players is not turning against them with the hypermarkets’ glory days sliding away.

What company would you still like to work for again in this country?

Carrefour. I’m sure we could do something about the hypermarkets. Not the next cosmetic makeover, but is something structural.
